September 13, 2026 Sixteenth Sunday After Pentecost

But as I learned from a book by Lisa TerKeurst some years ago, sometimes it’s about the *best* yes:  saying no to some concerns frees up time and attention for others.  So as we discern the ministries of our church, please know that your input is welcome—the Council and I want to hear from you.

For instance, we heard recently about a need for coffee in one of the feeding ministries with which this church has been involved for years, and that is a need to which we can respond quickly and easily.  Another member suggested the electronics recycling drive, which is both creation care (stewardship!) and a service to our neighbors, who need a way to responsibly move those things out of their homes.   So keep us in mind as you hear about community needs, or as you are thinking about your concerns for the world, so that we can respond as we are able.

Grace and peace to you and yours,

Becky

Prayer:

Loving God, who strengthens the enslaved with the defiance of gratitude

for all which escapes the hands of oppressors,

With Christ, we give thanks for all that's hidden from those in charge,
but given to the vulnerable.

We thank You for all that it's easy to love:
the sunshine, the birdsong, the puffins, the dolphins,
good food and drink,
for new life, and new hope, and the church at its best.

We thank You for what You love anyway, because You see the good in it:
midges and wasps; winter and fire;
the ending of lives, like the leaves of autumn when their time has come;
and yes, for duties and obligations that shape our lives.

We thank You for all that you give us.
We thank You … for the difference thanks makes;
And dear God for Christ, Your own giving of Yourself.  Amen.[1]
