My name is Matthew Grubbs. I was born and raised in the small town of Saxonburg. Both my parents were blue collar workers; my father worked in manufacturing for most of my life and my mother held a variety of jobs before settling as the church secretary at the church where I spent my formative years. After high school, I went to Slippery Rock University where I graduated with a BA in History. During this time I felt called into ministry, and having grown up Presbyterian I went to Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. After graduating with my Masters of Divinity, I found myself drawn away from the Presbyterian church. After I spent some time soul searching and continuing to discern my call, I found myself drawn to the Methodist Church and Wesleyan Theology. Since then I have been doing whatever I can to fulfill my call and serve the church. This past February I was approved by the Pittsburgh District Committee of Ordained Ministry to attend Licensing school to earn my license to preach. I’m currently working as a Teacher’s Aide at Mars Home for Youth where I enjoy working with the staff and students in bringing forth education that attends to the needs of the student.
I have been married to my loving wife, Amanda, for 9 years now; our anniversary is on June 8th. We met in seminary and married soon after and we now live in a cozy apartment near Bellevue. In my free time I enjoy nerd culture, including reading comic books, playing video games, Warhammer, D&D, and reading sci-fiction/fantasy novels. I also enjoy outdoor activities such as fishing, hiking, camping, and hunting. In high school I played on the football team, and have been a lifetime fan of the Steelers.
GOSPEL John 15:9-15
9 As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love. 10 If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. 11 I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete.
12 ‘This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13 No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command you. 15 I do not call you servants any longer, because the servant does not know what the master is doing; but I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from my Father.
