October 8, 2023 Nineteenth Sunday After Pentecost

Immediately on the heels of Halloween we celebrate All Souls’ Day.  Way back to Wesley this holiday has been important for Methodists.  It’s a day when we remember those who have gone before us, particularly in this year.  We’ll remember beloved members of our community, and personally we can remember persons we have loved who have died, and we’ll give God thanks for their time with us, and for our knowledge that they are now in God’s safe hands.  It’s an affirmation of the church in its largest sense, from the apostles to us, and all the generations in between.

Looking forward to seeing you in church and in-between,

Becky

Prayer

Holy God,

As we revel in the snap and freshness of autumn breezes,

As we focus on the chores that need to be done before season’s end,

Help us to notice the wonders of this world you have given us.

As we live into our community, both within the church and without,

Help us to be gracious,

To share in your gifts in a spirit of wonder and openness,

To both treasure our friends and to keep the circle open.

You are always inviting us “further up and further in”—

Help us to keep a spirit of eager anticipation

as we seek to live into our lives as Christians.  Amen.
