And finally, I invite you to pray for all of the students starting a fresh term: for good morale, for curiosity, for the grit to stay with the work. And I also invite you to pray for the teachers learning whole new classes worth of names and personalities, and preparing and implementing their plans, as well as for the staff, both administrative and support staff, as they care for the students and their educations. We pray for them on all levels, from preschool through the various kinds of grad school. And we also pray for the parents and other helpers and guardians who are transporting the kids, supporting them in their homework, and showing up at all of the events.

Gracious and holy God, we give you thanks for the gift of education. You have built learning and growth and change into the lives that we lead, and you delight in our pleasure and discovery in the world around us. We thank you for the many people who come together to make learning both possible and fruitful, and who care so deeply for their students and their subjects. We thank you for the families who support their students, and we pray as well for the students who are lacking support for any reason. We pray also for all of those adults who wish they could offer a beloved student more support, but are prevented by distance, by broken relationships, or by illness or physical limitations. Please bless our attempts to learn more about your world, including about each other, and especially about you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
