May 14, 2023 Sixth Sunday of Easter

The World Council of Churches, of course, is asking that question about Christianity worldwide, but it is also a useful question for us here at McKnight:  How, according to the will of God, and under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, is the life of the church to be understood and ordered, so that the Gospel may be spread and the community built up in love?

As a church we understand ourselves to be called together.  We come here to be “fed” and to praise God together, of course, but if we think we are doing it only as some sort of customer service encounter, our thinking is flawed.  We are called.  God is the one who calls us.

So as we think about the life we continue to shape together here at McKnight, let us remember whose service we are in, and whose gift it is that we can come together—and let us continue to pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit in our community, that we keep God at the center of all things here.

I’ll see you in church—

Becky

Prayer

Holy and Generous God,

Giver of all good things,

Shape our hearts as we build this community in your name.

Teach us to keep you at the center of every project,

            every budget, and every priority.

Teach us to seek and trust your guidance,

And to remember whose the church is.

We ask your blessing on our encounters,

That we might share and grow in love,

In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
