May 21, 2023 Seventh Sunday of Easter

McKnight has its own particular heritage, as you have told me in many different encounters:  community, mission, service, and love.  You’ve had different pastors.  Some of you have raised your families here, and some continue to do so.  Every church has bumps along the road, but a core group of you continues to stick together in community, to love each other and to honor God.

And part of our communal heritage is having had Kathie Chavka’s gifts in service to God and our community.  We are so lucky to have had her playing with us, adapting to the needs of the moment, sharing her love of God and of music, and encouraging the gifts of others.  We’ll have one more Sunday of Kathie’s accompaniment after this week, but we’re celebrating Kathie this Sunday so that if you’re traveling for Memorial Day, you can still come and give her your love and support at her send-off.  We’ll have cookies and other snacks, and a good time of fellowship.  Tell your friends, so that they can honor her too!

I’ll see you in church,

Becky

Prayer

Gracious God, you met John Wesley’s uncertainty with divine assurance and you called him to declare your salvation in the fields, streets, and prisons where people were desperate for good news. Inspire us today to carry the stories of all you have done among us beyond the doors of this building, that we may grow as your church in the world, a living temple that brings your love and grace to the corners of our communities that most need your good news. In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Amen.
