Ordination was itself a wonderful experience: in our United Methodist tradition, ordination comes after a period of service in the local church. After that period there’s that site visit that we had, during which you all were able to speak to the Board, and of course I’ve had to write multiple papers and do a project, as well as two days of interviews myself with our Board of Ordained Ministry. Only then was I allowed to go before a vote with all of the clergy of the Conference. So when ordination finally came, it felt like an affirmation all around, and with prayer for the presence of the Holy Spirit. One of the final things the bishop says to the ordinand is “Take thou authority,” meaning that my call has been affirmed both by the local church and by the clergy of the conference. And I was especially blessed that my mom and all of my kids were able to be present with me.
Thank you for being the church that journeyed with me throughout this process, and for all the love you have given me.
Grace and peace,
Becky
Prayer:
Gracious God, we give you thanks for the gift of Christian fellowship, for this Body of Christ with whom we journey. Thank you for the love of this community, which celebrates our joys and supports us through our difficulties. We ask your continued blessing on this community, that we may continue to share our love and our sense of care for each other with all those around us. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
